I recently started reading more of God's Word. Several times a day, reading, pondering, and praying. And the more I read, the more I think about Him and His goodness, and the more I want my life and thoughts to reflect Him. Recently during a deep valley of uncertainty, I felt lost and like God wasn't hearing my desperate pleas, but He did. Even if I didn't see anything change in my circumstance, I knew He was there. Our lives don't depend on God doing what we want Him to do and around our timing. He was there, loving me and comforting me during those days and weeks and months of just plain hard. And He is here with you now.
See, we have to go through valleys in order to gain new strength and rich character and for God to work deep into our hearts. It's so we need Him.
I found Love in my morning routine. I made my cup of coffee or tea, let the dogs outside, sat down on the couch, and just asked God to speak to me. I kept reading and I wrote down what stood out to me, what God was speaking to my heart, and what questions I had for Him. I knew it was the only remedy that would cure what ailed me. I did the everyday, well, everyday, and in God's word I found it. I found the Love that I was needing and so terribly craving. I knew it was there all along, but my heart was a little fragile and wounded. He is the Healer.
Like many of us, I have been wounded by others and by difficult seasons. You can't get away from those realities. And you can't get away from the love of God.
I had to say "no" to a lot of things during that season, but also "yes" to many others. I had to say yes to digging deep into the book of John with some Instagram friends I barely knew, I read about Jesus with them and grew hungry for more. My soul was so hungry for it! I also had to say no to certain friends, to certain food, and to certain movies. All which didn't add life or help me heal. Maybe start there, start with the things that don't add life to your daily routine.
It's true that God's Holy Word is living and breathing. That is why we notice a heart change when we lean into Him.
Hebrews 4:12 says, "See, the Word of God is alive it is at work and sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts right through to where soul meets spirit and joints meet marrow, and it is quick to judge the inner reflections and attitudes of the heart."
I feel it and I know you can too. Just keep reading. Even if you are confused, feel like a mess (um, I'm raising my hand too!), or maybe you are feeling just peachy in your season of life. Keep reading with me, the Bible is alive and yours for the taking! Talk to the Lord and ask Him for you to feel it and see it. It's there!
Fight for that time in the Word. You do have time for it! Start with the book of John, see how much Jesus loved and cared for those around Him. For you! Start up your own routine, it very well could be something your heart needs.
