There are times when I need to take a break from coffee. The reasons could be different at times, but when I know, I know! So, during the time I am missing coffee, I find myself really enjoying this drink, hot and full of body, and full of good fats that your brain and body needs with a kick of magnesium from the cacao powder. Actually, I find myself coming back to this drink often, knowing it won't cause me to become too jittery and I still enjoy a small jolt of energy after finishing the cup.
Here is the recipe for my Cacao Cup:
In a pint size mason jar place the following ingredients inside:
1 spoonful coconut oil
1 spoonful yellow butter (omit if you don't want dairy)
2 spoonfuls of cacao powder (you can do cocoa powder but I like the cacao because it's stronger and better for you)
1 small spoonful of molasses or honey, or maple syrup (add more or less to your sweetness)
*If desired add a dash cinnamon/nutmeg
Pour boiling water in jar, on top of ingredients. Place metal lid on and cover with towel to protect your hands from getting too hot, and shake. The lid may act like it's going to pop, it won't pop off but it may leak a tiny bit. Stop for a second, then shake until there is froth on top, which will be about 1 minute. If you have a hand held frothing tool, use that! Pour into your mug and enjoy.
Another great tip:
Have this jar full of the ingredients as you prepare for your roadtrip or pack in your bag if you will be staying at a hotel. You will be so thankful you did! Simply add hot water. Be extra bold and add some coffee with it, boy that's a good cup of cacao!
I sure hope you enjoy this drink! Full of good fats and minerals.
** Cacao is a great source of magnesium. I started to add cacao and switch from cocoa powder once realizing magnesium is a great mineral to increase into your diet if you suffer from migraines.
